What the Data & Research Team does
The Data & Research Team builds and operates the systems that collect information about the 2,268 sites in the PornMeter directory: automated crawlers, scripted real-browser sessions, availability monitoring and the structured database that reviews are written from. If a review quotes a load time, an ad count or a catalog observation, this team produced the underlying data point.
What the team looks at
Depending on the site and category, collected data can include catalog structure and size signals, streaming and media behavior, mobile rendering, advertising pressure during a scripted visit, account and paywall requirements, pricing where visible, technical characteristics such as HTTPS and redirect behavior, and public availability signals. Not every signal applies to every category, and not every signal can be measured on every site.
Verification rules
Observed facts are separated from estimates. A feature is only presented as verified when it was confirmed in an actual session; when something cannot be checked, it is recorded as unverified and reviews are not allowed to assert it as fact. Estimated or inferred information is flagged internally with lower confidence and should never be read as a direct measurement.
Refresh cycle
Site data is reviewed and refreshed periodically. Update frequency varies by data point, category and the availability of reliable information — availability checks run far more often than full re-evaluations. When a site changes significantly, its data snapshot is queued for a refresh, and the Editorial Team re-assesses the affected pages.
How data relates to rankings
The team supplies data; it does not set positions. Final Meter Scores and rankings are editorial decisions made by the Editorial Team under the methodology, informed — but not dictated — by this team's measurements.
